Overview

A multidisciplinary branding project for The Philocalist, an art, fashion, and culture publication. Inspired by the symbolism of the butterfly as a representation of transformation, freedom, and spiritual growth, the project combined brand identity, UI/UX design, and photography to create a cohesive editorial experience across digital and visual touchpoints.

Concept
Concept

At the heart of the identity is a butterfly symbol, chosen as a representation of transformation, freedom, prosperity, purity, and personal evolution. Beyond its visual form, the butterfly serves as a metaphor for the triumph of spirit and soul over the distractions of material existence. The symbol reflects the publication's mission to explore beauty, culture, and ideas through a lens of curiosity, growth, and self-discovery. The identity was designed to embody a sense of elegance and transformation while maintaining the editorial sophistication expected from a contemporary cultural publication.

Digital Experience
Digital Experience

Alongside the visual identity, the project included the design of the publication's digital platform. The UI and UX focused on creating an immersive reading experience where content remains central while maintaining a strong visual identity throughout the user journey. The interface was designed to support a variety of content categories, including fashion, art, interviews, and cultural features, while ensuring clarity, accessibility, and editorial consistency.

To support the launch of the publication, a series of portraits and promotional images were produced featuring the editorial team behind The Philocalist. The photography was developed as an extension of the brand identity, reinforcing the publication's visual tone and establishing a consistent presence across launch communications and promotional materials.
